肥後象嵌は江戸時代初期より刀の鍔などの鉄地に切り込みを入れ、そこに金銀を打ち込む象嵌として、多くの大名がその気品ある美しさを競って名工たちを召し抱え、技術を競わせておりました。 小倉初代藩主から加藤家改易により肥後藩主となった細川忠興公は、利休の七哲の一人として（茶名は細川三斎）文武に優れた大文化人であり、自らも象嵌、色つけ、デザインを行ないその美学を継承し定着させ、「肥後象嵌」の勃興から、象嵌の名匠 林又八を始め、たくさんの名匠たちの名品を後世に残しています。2003年に「肥後象嵌」は経済産業省により国指定伝統工芸品として指定されました。

Higo Zogan is a traditional metal inlay technique dating back to the early Edo period. Artisans carve fine grooves into iron surfaces—such as sword guards—and inlay them with gold and silver. Its refined beauty was prized by feudal lords, who competed to support master craftsmen. Lord Hosokawa Tadaoki, a renowned cultural figure and tea master, played a key role in establishing and refining this art form. Under his influence, many masterpieces were created and passed down through generations. In 2003, Higo Zogan was officially designated as a National Traditional Craft by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

皇室や宮家の慶事のとき、小さな菓子を入れる引き出物として配られたというのが由来のボンボニエール。マリア・グラシアではベースにどこよりも清い白色と言われる天草陶石を使い、素材の美しさを際立たせる透明釉、鍔の鉄黒を想わさる黒漆、そして象嵌を象徴する金漆、銀漆と複数のバリエーションをご用意しました。装飾品として、また小物入れとして、使い方は自由自在。特別な方への贈り物としても最適です。

Traditionally, bonbonnieres were small containers used to present sweets during celebratory occasions in the Imperial family. At MARIA GRACIA, we use Amakusa pottery stone—known for its pure white quality—as the base material. The collection features various finishes, including clear glaze highlighting the natural beauty, deep black lacquer inspired by iron sword guards, and gold and silver lacquer representing inlay artistry. Perfect as a decorative piece or a small container, it also makes an elegant gift for special occasions.
